Former member of National Assembly and National Democratic Movement (NDM) leader Mohsin Dawar’s convoy came under a gun attack by terrorists in Tappi village North Waziristan on Wednesday. North Waziristan District Police Officer (DPO) Rohan Zaib confirmed to the media about the attack but noted that the politician remained safe due to the law enforcers deployed for his security. He said that the security personnel accompanying Dawar fired back at the assailants, which forced them to flee from the scene. According to the police, several gunshots were fired at Dawar’s convoy but he remained safe because his car was bulletproof. The DPO told the media that foolproof security has been provided to the ex-MP while a search operation has been launched for the assailants. “Cowardly attacks cannot dampen our spirit. The patrons of the attackers should come in the field themselves instead of using others’ children against us,” Dawar said in reaction to the attack. Separately, a Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) candidate for the general elections survived a bomb attack on Wednesday when his vehicle was targeted with a remote-controlled device in Bajaur. The incident occurred in Mamund tehsil of the Malakand division in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, where the JUI-F nominee for PK-19 constituency, Qari Khairullah, was the intended target. Khairullah’s vehicle was damaged as a result of the blast, but fortunately, the JUI-F leader remained unharmed. JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghauri, while condemning the attack, accused the Ministry of Interior for not fulfilling its responsibilities.
